this is where context comes in handy. 1 John was written to the Jews. the jews does confession.
“…as they confessed their sins” – Matthew 3:5

the pre text should be this…
“…God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all” – 1 John 1:5

1John 1:9 was not written to Knostic sinning unbelievers. It’s written to encourage believers to walk in truth and enjoy fellowship. Today many believers fail to walk in the Spirit and fail to enjoy intimate communion. First, the clear language states, “if we confess.” John includes himself. Secondly, no place in the N.T. are sinners told to confess their sins in order to be saved. If sinners needed to confess their sins (plural) their salvation would be as dependent on their memory as on the grace of God. A sinner coming to Christ can’t remember all their sins.Furthermore, a sinner is saved by confessing the Lord Jesus and believing in their heart, not confessing their sins. Yes, our sins were paid for at Calvary. But humble repentance and faith is required to appropriate what Christ has purchased. Plus, the words, “faithful and just” are judicial terms referring specifically to the covenant between Father God and Jesus directly not to us. We benefit as a result. I don’t want justice I need mercy.

I have not purchased any of Joseph Prince’s books. However, I have read an excerpt online to get a sense of what he is saying about fasting, and I am not comfortable with what I read. I must say that I have been fasting for years and I have seen God move “miraculously” in several situations. I believe that is is an under utilized spiritual weapon that should not be overlooked by the Christian community, or be taught in such a manner that it is “unnecessary”. From what I have read in the review of the book, I am not comfortable with Prince’s teaching on fasting. I have studied fasting in depth in the past. I will continue to fast and prayer, and urge others to do so.

Romans 8 is my favourite chapter in the whole bible.

Romans 8:1

Joseph Prince is a great teacher of the word. Some many people take apart of what he says and judge it against their own lives and see that they don’t agree. What you should be doing is judging it against what Gods word says. Joseph Princes’s teaching is always and only God centred. His preaching is about revealing Christ in his fullness to the church. But take Joseph Prince out of the equation and try reading the bible and the new covenant for yourself. I can not say why there are staving and people dying from disease around the world for christians. But if you do not know your promises in God then how can you live them? When was the last time when you saw someone walking down the road who was sick or poor you stepped out of you self absorbed empathetic mindset and actually prayed for them or even gave them a jumper or some money for food. I myself am guilty of this so don’t for one second think I’m judging. But how bout the church as a whole got off there bum and started being the church. As for what the bible says about prosperity…

So someone who takes communion knowing they are in sin and purposely taking communion, then later on repent and seek God and turn from their sin, they can be saved right? I mean at one point in every christians walk have taken communion in an unworthy manner. Right??

Haha! Just to clarify any confusion among readers, I have to say that I think 1 John 1:9 is a wonderful and liberating verse. I don't like how some people change the meaning of John's words to preach a sin-glorifying message, but I love 100% what John has to say. I have written several posts on 1 John 1:9 including this one here.

Paul, please indulge me briefly, I know you know this just from your above post but it really is your fault that I want to post this. You brought up Judas and this was something I having been wanting to look at. So this post is for others who may be interested and reenforces your statement. The Bible says Judas repented in YLT it says “repented himself”. Strong’s uses to different GK words for Judas repentence and the repentence that we are instructed to do. Both words use the same prefix the the body is different. It appears to me that the difference was that Judas realized he was condemned. His regret was for himself only not a change of mind and heart because he had done something against the Lord. As you say, repentence is something different for different people. Thank you

Natalie, I have been listening to JP for almost 2 yrs. I have never understood him to say that there are not consequences for sin. What he does do is not preach about how bad you are if you sin instead he tells you how to stop sinning and that’s by knowing how much Jesus loves us and learning who we are in Christ. We can easily see that even in the secular world that children who are raised knowing that they are so loved do much better than children raised in unloving environments. They think in their hearts they are not worthy of love and do not love themselves. It is hard for them to see that anyone can love them. When they can eimbrace the love of God for them personally they find that they do not WANT to hurt the One who loves them. The Apostle John knew this and I often mimic his wise consul to himself. I “am the disciple whom Jesus loves!” Sin then becomes something that I don’t want to do, not because I’m afraid of God but because I don’t want to disappoint Him or sully His family name. To make His sacrifice for me “of no effect”. I am not under the law I live under Grace.

Gal 2: 16-20 I was studying using Andrew Wommack’s online Bible Commentary. He said, “notice it says faith OF Christ” Thank God for the Blue Letter Bible, so many translations. KJV says of but all the other well known versions say IN ??? I looked at Young Literal Tans. and it says OF. This was a revelation moment for me. Jesus’ faith is in my spirit, of coarse it is, my spirit is one with His. I didn’t have the faith to even get saved, God gave it to me as a gift (Rom 10:17). Now I understand why Jesus said we could do all things. Why faith the size of a mustard seed could move a mountain, His faith working through us. What a relief ! Once again I can rest in HIm and not struggle. I problem was my mind and once again, “renew my mind with the Word”.
It’s ALL, ALL, ALL about Him. Praise God !

I love that you searched it out the way you did…how cool is technology? Anyway I am Romans 6,7,8 all the way- my book is based on chapter 8. Reading them all in sequence reveals such an awesome message of identity.

But what other verse could be added? Col 1-4 (and they can’t be separated either). I believe those verses say it all. We are dead! But our LIFE is hidden with Christ in God…woah! That means nothing is impossible and sin isn’t even a factor :)
