A game I sometimes play is I switch over to the local Christian TV channel and see how long it takes for the preacher of the moment to mix law with grace.
It’s not a game I enjoy!
The more I appreciate the significance of Jesus’ sacrifice, the more sensitive I become to those who try and tell me it was not sufficient, that I need to do stuff to stay forgiven/holy/righteous.
Nothing upsets me faster.
A few months ago I was playing this game and I came across Joseph Prince, a Singaporean preacher of grace. What a breath of fresh air is this man! Don’t be deterred by his accent or style, if that’s not your thing, and miss the substance of what he preaches. He is a giant in the world of TV preachers and we watch him regularly.
If you’ve never heard him preach, you’re missing out. Mr Prince is an excellent communicator. He makes deep water revelations simple and easy to grasp. To give you some idea of this, I have picked 20 of my favorite quotes from his outstanding book Destined to Reign.
1. “The law justified no one and condemned the best of us, but grace saves even the worst of us.” (p.124)
2. “God does not leave you wondering whether you are saved or not. He tells you outright that you are His and that nothing can ever separate you from the love of Christ. Not even sin because His blood is greater than your sin!” (p.95)
3. “The way some people portray God today creates the false impression that His mercy lasts for a moment, but his anger lasts forever!” (p.211)
4. “Even though the law is holy, just and good, it has no power to make you holy, just and good.” (p.16)
5. “Sometimes, when I hear the way some preachers preach, I really wonder, has the cross changed anything? The system of being blessed when you do good and being cursed when you fail was already in place before Jesus came. Why are they still teaching that we are under that system today?… Don’t negate the cross of Jesus. The cross of Jesus changed everything.” (p.295)
6. “Knowing that you are completely forgiven destroys the power of sin in your life.” (p.100)
7. “I have been accused of being an antinomian (someone who is against the law of Moses). The truth is I have the highest regard for the law. And it precisely because I have the highest regard for the law that I know that no man can keep the law… It is us grace preachers who have the highest regard for the law!… I am for the law, for the purpose for which God gave the law… God did not give the law for us to keep. He gave the law to bring man to the end of himself, so that he would see his need for a Saviour.” (p.122-3)
8. “Anyone who doesn’t focus on Jesus Christ and His finished work has neither the wisdom of God nor the power of God…” (p.199)
9. “Believers are often exhorted to repent from sin. However, in the New Testament we are actually exhorted to repent from dead works. You see, sin is simply the fruit, dead works are the root…. Dead works are not sins. They are the religious things people do, thinking that by doing these things, they are gaining righteousness with God. If you pray because you think that praying makes you right with God, that’s a dead work. But if you pray because you are right with God and you know that He loves you, there is power there.” (p.234)
10. “Let me teach you how to discern if the grace teaching that you are hearing is doctrinally sound. When you hear the new covenant of grace preached, it is always Christ-exalting. It always reveals more and more of Jesus… There is no grace without Jesus…. Grace is not a doctrine. Grace is a person and His name is Jesus. Therefore, there is no grace teaching without Jesus Christ. You cannot separate Jesus and grace!” (p.32)
11. “The law is about you looking at yourself. The new covenant is all about you seeing Jesus.” (p.196)
12. “There are still people who insist that we have to preach on repentance. Well, I disagree! I think we should do it God’s way – preach the goodness of God and allow the goodness of God to lead people to repentance. Such repentance will be true repentance. It will not be motivated by the fear of judgment and indignation. It will be a genuine repentance that is motivated by His grace, unconditional love and compassion. After all, our ability to love God stems from our first tasting His love for us.” (p.232)

16. “Look at all the people who received miracles from Jesus during His ministry on earth. Not a single one of them deserved it. My senior pastor also been touched by the “Gospel of Grace”, for over a year now he’s been teaching “grace” in our church (www.fijcf.com). This man’s doctrine is errant and is the old liberal view which denies the wrath of God against sin. Jesus, Himself came preaching “Repent for the kingdom of God is at Hand” Hebrews 6:4-9,10:26-31 tells us a man can fall from grace and these passages are addressed to believers. It is true we are not saved by works but if we sin we are to come to God and ask for forgiveness. It is not automatically forgiven with out repentance on our part.

Thanks for taking the time to write in with your concerns. Having read a few of Mr Prince’s books and heard him preach about 50 times, I can assure you he is most definitely against sin. He would also say that someone who chooses to live in sin and thinks they’re under grace most definitely isn’t.
Regarding the two passages in Hebrews, please see my response to comment #5 in my post on “Partial forgiveness”.
Regarding your comment that Christians need to ask God for forgiveness, I’m not so sure. Why do we need to ask for something we already have? The gospel of grace that Paul preached tells us all our sins were forgiven at the cross (Col 2:13). John writes that the blood of Jesus cleanses and goes on cleansing us (1 Jn 1:7). Confession of sin is necessary for a sinner, but gets the Christian focused on himself and his shortcomings instead of on Christ and His righteousness. I have argued elsewhere that this sort of confession is bad for you. We are led to repentance not out of an awareness of our badness, but through a revelation of God’s goodness (Rms 2:4). Psalm 51 provides a model prayer in this regard.
I have to ask, in your response to Tim… if it is only the Goodness of God that draws us to repentance, and not an awareness of our badness, then just what do we repent of?
Brandon, can you give me a scripture that supports your idea that “awareness of our badness leads to repentance?” You seem to be objecting to something the other Paul said in Romans 2:4.
To repent means to change one’s mind. A focus on turning from our own badness, which is what every human religion preaches, is a superficial caricature of true repentance. Paul did not realize that even his very best attributes were but dung until he had a revelation of God’s goodness and a desire to know Him more.
I see the arguments of both sides. I have heard pastor prince since day one and have to say that understanding the law is a no brainer but grace takes revelation, as its from heaven, its God’s way. Dont even wanna waste my breath to debunk those who seek to obey the law.
The religious and proud will always focus on their sins, dos and dont, all those religious works.. One question though.. how much is enough? How much do we need to do for God to move? God is light and He dont operate in grey area or ambiguous. How much is good enough? For those who uphold the law, have u dig out your eyes or chop off the hands that steal yet? U know what Jesus said.
It is these teachings that drive believers nuts because no one can meet God’s standard.
Lets humble ourselves and accept the sheer goodness of God’s precious sacrifice. Look at Jesus’s lives. The multitudes he feeds and heal. Do u think all of them are so clean and deserved it? Or Peter, who had denied Jesus, was fishing when Jesus appeared on the shore to give him a net breaking blessing load of fishes (financial blessing since he is a businessman with boats) .. Has peter confessed his sins of denial yet?
Confession of sin is only one aspect. Confession is also saying what God has done to your sin and who u r now in christ.
End of the day, its the SHEER goodness of God and nothing else. The whole Bible – its all about Jesus and the Father’s Love for us.
I can totally relate to God’s amazing grace. I was initially impressed by JPs radical preaching on Grace. I purchased his book Destined to Reign. It was after reading His book I became exceeding alarmed by some of his false teachings. Confession is about relationship not condemnation. We are His. The Holy Spirit does convict us because He wants us to become more Christ like but its done in love. If you actually take the Greek word for “convict” it has several meanings in the Bible and is ALL over the NT. Why does JP not defend his position if he himself was the one that offered the challenge? JP has taken many passages out of context. We as believers need to pray for him and instruct him on the areas of his false teachings. The question is…is JP teachable. Is he open again to the Holy Spirit ” convicting” Him like he said when JP refered to the HOly Spirit revealing to him about mixing Grace & Law.

2 Corinthians 7:10 “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation..”
Luke 18:13,14 “And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other..”
Furthermore, Joseph Prince’s teachings on grace lull you into sleep concerning sin and reminds me of those false teachers Jude 4 speak of. Jesus began his ministry speaking on repentance, exhorted the churches in Revelation to repent, and praised John the Baptist as the greatest prophet born of women (who’s principle message was repentance). Obedience to God’s Word is found in every single book of the new testament. 1 John 2:3,4 even states:
“Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
if you do not believe you are FOREVER FORGIVEN, you are not forgiven at all.:))))
Maybe not here on earth, by me. But always in Heaven, by God I am forgiven forever. If I could lose that, then does the cross mean nothing, that by my works I keep or lose my forgiveness?
Where is your Scripture for that because there is none your comment said it is up to YOU and YOUR belief to keep salvation and forgiveness. It is not up to MAN, but to God.
After Jesus died on the cross. The Lord said, I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.

I experienced the same thing. Was a slave to Roman catholicism false doctrines, and then I started actually reading and studying the Bible, and listening to grace preachers, and finally I was saved and met Jesus like never before.

In the bible I find how to fall from grace in Gal 5:4 NIV which says:
“You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.”
So if you are stuck in your works trying to be justified you have fallen from Grace. WOW!
Heavenly father please give me the strength to not be separated from you by trying to be justified by the law. I ask in Jesus name. AMEN!

Hey praise the Lord. I must confess that I am not in agreement with you as your position makes a passage like James 5:15-16 meaningless. I have prayed for any number of people to be healed and often the key to their healing was confession of their sin. Not only that but a number of believers have come to me saying that in the sins with which they were involved in the Holy Spirit specifically told them to confess their sins in public to receive forgiveness. As a pastor I could not do as your doing and and give any one the assurance of forgivenss that you do.
Hi again Tim. As a pastor I have seen the same thing. Sin is destructive and ill health is certainly one consequence of sinful choices. If talking about it helps set you free from sin, then talk about it. Bringing things into the light is better than keeping them hidden in the dark. Be honest before God about your shortcomings and failures. Often people don’t talk about their sin because of pride. “I can’t believe I did that” or “that’s not me.” Some people need a wake-up call. Apart from Jesus we don’t have a whole lot going for us. But God gives grace to the humble.
In leading a church you will also know that many of the problems you face are relational issues. That’s why James writes confess your sins to each other. Basic honesty means being open with one another. A church full of love and grace and truth will be a healthy church. So there are many times when confession is good and helpful. But James does not write confess to God. Neither did Jesus say the Holy Spirit would convict us of our sins. He said the Holy Spirit would convict the world of guilt in regard to sins and us in regard to righteousness. Under the new covenant, the Holy Spirit chooses to remember our sins no more (Heb 10:17).
Confessing sins to obtain something we were given 2000 years ago – forgiveness – is unnecessary. God does not judge us as acceptable on the basis of our performance and He never will. The blood of Jesus is infinitely more satisfying to the demands of justice than our puny performance. We don’t have our hearts sprinkled from a guilty conscience by confessing sins, but by the precious blood of Jesus. It’s one or the other. If it’s a little bit of both then the blood of Jesus is inadequate.
Confession of sins is about being real and honest about our humanity. It’s something we do as a result of being forgiven and not something we do in order to be forgiven.

I’m sorry but it appears to me you are not being honest with the Scriptures in an effort to defend your errant doctrine. James didn’t say talk about you short comings but rather confess them as sin that you may be forgiven v.15. Jesus in Matthew 6 in His model prayer tells us daily to address the issue of sin in our lives confessing them before God. I have to take the plain meaning of the word and not an interpretation that has been superimposed upon a passage by a false presupposition. I should’ve addressed James 5:15 in my earlier response. Let’s look at the two verses together:
“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” (Jas 5:15-16)
It is significant that James deals with sin and sickness together as Jesus died to set us free from both (Is 53:4-6). When were we forgiven? At the cross (see Col 2:13). Similarly, the Bible talks of our healing as something that took place in the past:
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed” (1 Pet 2:24).
Now you were healed at the cross, but you may be battling with ill-health today. If so, the victory that Christ won for you in the past needs to be enforced in your life today. What will bring that victory? James says “the prayer offered in faith.” He’s not preaching works, he’s preaching faith in Christ. How will we know that your faith is real? Because it is accompanied by miraculous works of healing and every other thing that Jesus did.
Likewise, you were forgiven at the cross, but you may be struggling with sin today. What will bring Jesus’ past victory into your present situation? Not confession. James says, “If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.” James does not say, “if he has sinned, and he confesses, he will be forgiven.” The reference to confession comes after the statement about sin and forgiveness and is directly linked with healing. (Note my response yesterday regarding the benefits of confession particularly with regards to bringing things into the light. Here I want to make it clear that James does not explicitly link confession with forgiveness.)
So what is the condition for forgiveness mentioned in James 5:15? Sinning. If you haven’t sinned, you cannot be forgiven. But the good news is that if you have sinned, you will be forgiven. The stunned sinner says, “how is this possible when I’ve done some terrible things?” and the preacher points to Jesus’ atoning sacrifice.
Telling people they have to confess their sins before God forgives them disempowers the gospel message. It’s tantamount to saying the blood of Jesus was not sufficient, that his “imperfect” sacrifice purchased for us a new start but not a new life. Because of Jesus the Holy Spirit chooses not to remember our sins anymore (Heb 10:17).Why would he bring them to our memory when he chooses not to remember them himself?
Colossians 2 says we were forgiven at the cross. Ephesians 1 says we have redemption and forgiveness of sins in accordance with the riches of God’s grace. If we are only forgiven when we confess, then Paul owes the Ephesians and the Colossians and us a huge apology for misleading us and for misrepresenting the grace of God. Same with John for he wrote “as is he is, so are we in this world” (1 Jn 4:17). If Jesus is righteous and we’re not, John is misleading us.
Some read James 5 as a recipe of things we must do to get things we don’t have (e.g., forgiveness and healing). The Bible says we have both things already. I read James 5 as an exhortation to pray and enforce that cross-wrought victory. This is, in fact, the true work of the believer: seeing the kingdom of God come in power. James is saying, “The prayers of the righteous are powerful! They enforce Christ-won victories in people’s lives.” James does not preach works as the basis of righteousness. He does not say “if you confess and do this and that then you will be righteous like Elijah.” No, he says, “Elijah was a man like us.” We have Christ’s righteousness. It’s a gift (Rms 5:17). We pray faith-filled prayers from a position of righteousness. Like Elijah, we can expect miracles. We can have a confident expectation that sick and sinning people are going to come into our lives/meetings/churches and walk away healthy and forgiven.
The model prayer given in the Sermon on the Mount says, “Forgive us as we forgive others.” This is the pristine standard of the law preached to people who had diluted the law to attainable human standards. The law is good, righteous and holy and I esteem it for the reason that God gave it. But I’m not going to put myself under a curse by trying to live under the very thing Christ died to set me from (Gal 3:10-13). I don’t forgive to get forgiven. I forgive as the Lord forgave me (Col 3:13). I have written more about that here and here. The short version is that the new covenant in his blood did not begin in Matthew 1, but Matthew 27.
PS: I do not consider your different views a source of strife. We’re just two guys trying to live for God. You make me dig into the Bible and that’s a good thing. I’m open to the possibility that I’m wrong on some points but this is the best understanding I have now. I used to preach the law to those God calls righteous. That’s like cursing those whom God has blessed. Never again! God bless!

Paul, great explanation about healing and forgiveness. Another way to say it is this truth, God’s system is not based upon apology. I mean the only system God uses is a blood sacrifice or offering to forgive sin. When the believer sins it is highly insulting to the blood of Christ to say well Jesus shed His blood for that sin to be forgiven once for all time, but you must apologize or you can’t have that forgiveness. Religious traditions of men created the apology concept. They can’t grasp, comprehend or accept that the Blood was all sufficient to forgive all sins once for all time!
Hey Pastors Paul and Tim. Pastor Paul I agree with you and Pastor Prince on this message of grace. There is no need to ask for a gift that has been so freely given to us. Pastor Tim, either you fully believe in the finished work at the cross of calvary, or you do not. I think it can be brought simply to that. Jesus’ work at the cross was perfect and complete and destroyed the power of sin. That is grace. Unearned favor of God. Either you believe that or you don’t.

Im a radical preacher of grace, and thus i appreciate teaching from men of God like Joseph Prince. the yoke of the law that seems to burden so many Christians is being lifted of when the message of grace is delivered, because this message shifts the perspective from us, and instead focuses on Christ. i thank God that i came across such a blog,it has been blessing to me and i believe that it will continue to unveil the mystery which was hidden from ages past.

I think it is much more than just asking for forgiveness. I think you need to repent. Repent is defined : “turn away from sin”. In Revelation Jesus appeared to John to tell the churches they needed to repent. They were in fact believers and they needed to repent for what they did/were doing. I don’t of know another way to start repentance except to admit that I have done wrong and be truly sorry for it. Since I am truly sorry I can’t help but to want to ask for forgiveness. For example if I hurt my friends feelings I believe he will forgive me but I won’t believe without asking because it truly begins to show a repentant heart just by asking. Just asking for forgiveness is not enough though. In order to truly show I have a changed heart is to NOT DO IT AGAIN.

“Repent” literally means to “change your mind.” To turn away from sin is not repentance, but the result of repentance. First you agree with God, then you change your behavior. Right living follows right believing. If saying sorry helps you agree with God quicker, then go for it! Because our minds need to be renewed, repentance ought to be our lifestyle. But JP’s point (I think) is we ought not to focus on our unworthiness as much as his worthiness. Neither do we need to ask him to pay the penalty for our sins and forgive us – he did that already. I repent all the time. Almost always it’s in response to a fresh revelation of his goodness. Regarding the churches in Revelations, please see my posts on Ephesus, Sardis, Thyatira and Laodicea. (I’m still working on the others.)

I would really love to settle this for myself personally though about “asking for forgiveness.” Can you please explain the model prayer in Matthew 6:9-15
“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors… For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15.But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
The model prayer shows that we as believers should ask for forgiveness of our debts. Can you explain this?

Hi Scotty,
The question of forgiveness lies at the very heart of the New Covenant. Are we fully forgiven or is our forgiveness conditional on things we must do (e.g., confession, forgiving others). I have written quite a few posts on these matters (check out the archive). But here’s how I read the Lord’s prayer:
First, it’s a picture of heaven coming to earth. Is there unforgiveness in heaven? No. Our aim is to see that heaven reality – God’s will – manifest here on earth. What does heaven on earth look like? People walking in forgiveness with each other and the Lord.
Second, and especially in the two verses following the Lord’s prayer, Jesus is preaching pure law; it’s a classic “if-then” statement. We will not be forgiven unless we forgive others. Happily, Jesus fulfilled the law on our behalf when he went to the cross (Rms 10:4). One of the last things he said was “forgive them.” If you choose to live under the law, add this to the list of 600+ things you must do to make yourself righteous. (You won’t succeed because no one ever has – apart from Christ.) If you choose to live under grace, add this to the long list of reasons for saying “thank you Jesus!” I have written more about this scripture here.
You are blessed – because of what Jesus has done, God has forgiven you. He did it 2000 years ago!

I totally agree Paul that the Lord’s prayer is actually part of the law. Even though I can’t keep all the commandments (to break one is guilty of them all) which means I have to rely on Grace doesn’t make the fact that when I’m actually doing some of them a bad thing though, especially if it deals with talking to God or asking Him things.

15.And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
I know that Jesus has paid the price for my sins. Asking God for forgiveness makes me feel confident in Him because I know He has forgiven me which is His will. For me asking God leaves no room for doubt in my life because I’d rather be safe than sorry. I basically said all that to say that there’s nothing wrong with people that ask for forgiveness. I don’t think they defame the cross, which I have read other blogs that say that. If anything it proves their confidence in Him.

God is our Abba, our Daddy. The asking of forgiveness is less a requirement from Him as it is a part of relationship with Him. As a parent, I can forgive any behaviours my child may and has done, but him saying sorry makes our relationship better than Him never apologizing at all. Like Paul said, turning away from sin first starts in your mind. Discerning is different than judging guys. We can discern, God judges. Bless, bless, bless. If we speak evil of others, we are no different than anyone else and are behaving as “mere men.”
Just a quick note: I speak from years of painful experience: focusing on the Law, on what “I” have to do in order to be alright with God always kills the Life (Zoe) in me. It results in uncertainty, fear, guiltfeelings, depression and finaly rebelion (that is when you are truly honest with the Law and how strict it really is!). When I focus on Jesus and His FREE gift of Salvation, His unconditional love, then that immediately results in deep peace, joy and love. I have learned that it’s not about “trying” but about “trusting” in Him who justifies the ungodly. He fights for me (exodus 14:14). To men this seems counterproductive and bad but in my life it is the only thing that really works! Pastor Prince is so right and he (and others) confirm everything I have understood from the Bible and experienced myself. Grace is the only thing that gets rid of sin. When I “try” I only get dirtier (as Luther also said), when I simply trust and hand it all to Jesus, resting in Him (Hebrews), sin is out of focus and has no more power over me. And when I do stumble, grace keeps me from panicking and being acused by the devil, which would only result in more sin! I think when you take the Law as serious as I have, then you will realize just how imposible it is to keep the Law, even a repentful heart is something we cannot offer God because it is His Spirit that changes our hearts. He who has been forgiven a lot, loves a lot. 100% grace means that God gets 100% credit and 100% grace is the only cure for people like us, that’s why Jesus died for us. Let’s not offer God our ‘blood filthy rags (sanitary towel)’ but let’s give thanks and honor to His Son who bought us with His own blood. Anyway, enough said, just wanted to share this 🙂 God bless.

Reading the above, I read a desperate search in all of you, one of self righteousness and the other of good deeds, it is all about ME MYSELF and I, its all about what Jesus did for ME to BECOME …..??….. whatever you have in your mind.
Problem is no one really becomes this person Price is preaching about, it is a big energy hype that leads nowhere, money pours in to the preacher creating the hype.
But no one really knows God when he leaves the meeting,our thoughts are not set on the God of the Bible we just sits with these ideas of massive freedom and I am the King of the Castle, just watch and wait………..and then? It all comes tumbling down in time. Why what went wrong. I call them motivational speakers. I just don’t make sense that the biggest part of the Bible gets thrown away, and I know I don’t understand everything God wanted to teach us there, but now we have to struggel with this New Testament Preachers that don’t know the FULL WORD OF GOD.
In the begining was the Word and the Word was God and the Word was with God and the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us. Now we throw it all away and just cling to – after the Word dwelt amongst us, (a couple of chapters at the end of the book), important chapters as all the others are. We have not even mastered the first section now we want to claim who knows what all, just because we have faith (noun) while the original faith that earned Abraham righteousness was a VERB ( a doing word) unfortunateley we lend our ears out to preachers with 3 or 4 years training with no understanding of the original language of the WORD OF GOD. No man its time we take the spoon back and feed outselves propperly
I have been listening to Pastor Prince teaching from the pulpit in Singapore for nearly 2 years now; I can testify that he teaches from the OT as much as (if not more) from the NT. The beautiful thing is he is able to bring up Jesus (& His finished work) in all these OT verses and our hearts was warm/burn within us just like the disciple’s experience on the road to Emmaus. See Luke 24:27&32 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself…..And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
I just don’t make sense that the biggest part of the Bible gets thrown away, and I know I don’t understand everything God wanted to teach us there, but now we have to struggel with this New Testament Preachers that don’t know the FULL WORD OF GOD.
When I came across Pastor Prince message on grace; it is the best thing that happens to me besides my conversion 35 years ago. It is often said that The New is in the Old Concealed, the Old is in the New Revealed. I like to add this: The New is in effect; the Old is an artifact.

i know personally 100s of people that have become…… all that they are today because of the Gospel of Grace that is preached at the church I Pastor, and 1000s at Pastor Josephs church. He has been pastoring over 20 years and his church has 22000 people in it….. i think there is stability!!! its not a energy hype, even though i do know churches like that and that is not one of them and neither is mine….. JP know the Bible from cover to cover and spends lots of time in the old pointing out how it was a picture of the cross…. type and shadow, he also has a very extensive background in the hebrew and greek…. there is no such thing as a balance of law and grace, its one or the other, salt and fresh water coming out of the same faucet , ought not be so!! Jesus came to fulfill ALL of the old covenant requirements and to free us from the dominion of sin…… never has anyone on this blog said through away the old testament, just look at it for what it is… and live in the new covent of Grace that is the empowerment to live what the old never could…. right believing will lead to right living, not fearing people into living right as a behavior modification… but rather a heart and life transformation. BECOME!!!

Wish we’d known of you and your grace preaching when we lived in the tri-county area (we were in Wetumpka, we now live 3 hours south near the Gulf Coast). A friend recently introduced my husband to JP’s Destined to Reign book. We’ve also read Unmerited Favour and purchased many of his teachings on DVD and watched any that we can find on the internet (iTBN and iTunes are great resources). We were both raised in church and have spent a lot of time in churches over the last 25 years. The stories I’ve read here echo so much of our experience with mixture trying to “work out our faith”. WIth this revelation we are hungry again for the Word and teaching. (P.S. The friend who turned us on to JP’s books still lives in the tri-county area – will make sure he knows about your church!)

I have read through the list of quotes above from “Pastor” Prince, as well as the response comments. I’ve read some of “Pastor” Prince’s new book on unmerited favor and read through one of his best known sermons on the forgiveness that Christ paid for on the cross and the grace bestowed upon us because of this.
After reading through all of this, I have come away very disenfranchised with his teachings on grace. Grace is not simply unmerited favor; grace is the God-given desire and the God-given ability to do what God has asked of us. He enables us to fulfill His will and His desires for our lives; repentance is a part of this (“putting off the old man and putting on the new” as Paul taught). Repentance is not simply a ‘change of mind’; this is only part of it. Repentance, in the Jewish mindset and in the Hebrew language, always entails action on the part of the person, a turning away from sinful behaviors. I have noticed that 1 John is quoted much here to try and support this “grace without confession or true repentance” bit. What I have not seen or heard thus far is 1 John 1:8-10: “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us”. John the Apostle was writing his letter to Christians, those already saved by grace. But they needed a reminder that, even after coming to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, we still have a sin nature within us that battles against our spiritual self in Christ. Because of this, we still need to confess our sins, when we do sin, to Jesus, asking Him to forgive us. And, as the verse clearly states, He will. This is not works-based or anything near it; it is appropriating what God has given to us.
Grace is not simply just bestowed on someone for a mental belief; action is always required to set yourself up in the position to receive. It is as if I received a gift and set it on the table and looked at it; unless I open the gift, I will never get to use the gift. Same with grace; Jesus paid the penalty for God’s grace to be given to all mankind, along with forgiveness, etc., but we still need to ask Him for it and place ourselves in the position to receive it! As John continues in his letter in chapter 2, verses 1-3: “My little children, I am writing to you so that you may not sin; but if any one does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He is our expiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we may be sure that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.” No one would ever accuse John the Apostle of being works-based, but yet, here John is commanding confession of sins, after salvation has already come, as well as acting in accordance with the belief in Christ in verse 3: “If you say that you know Him (Jesus) then you’ll obey His commandments”. Confession of sins and repentance from such are part of God’s commandments; they were in the Old Testament as well as the New Testament (other examples of this are: Ephesians 4:17-32 [where Paul is describing what it looks like to repent], Acts 2:38 [where Peter commands repentance]).
We are truly saved by grace through faith; we don’t deserve this grace at all, but God has chosen to offer it to us anyway. To receive it, we have but to reach out to Jesus, confessing our sins and asking Him to help us repent. The thief on the cross demonstrated his understanding of his situation when he reprimanded the other thief for reviling Jesus. The thief, in quick words, showed that he knew he was a sinner and deserved to die, but Jesus did not. Then, he asked Jesus to remember him in His kingdom. This was the thief’s moment of salvation; he had already confessed his sins out loud, now he was turning to the One who could and did forgive him of those sins. Obviously nailed to that cross he could not demonstrate his changed behavior, but he at least had taken the first step of repentance.
Luke 5:32 “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to REPENTANCE.” (remember, that based off of what Paul says in Romans 1, ALL have sinned [other than Jesus] and have fallen short of the glory of God. So Jesus is calling ALL of us to repent, because we are all sinners).
Mark 1:15 …”The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT ye, AND BELIEVE the gospel.” (this is at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry)
Luke 24:47 …[Jesus said to them] that REPENTANCE and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem (and this at the end of Jesus’ ministry, after His resurrection)
Three quick responses: (1) There are two kinds of favor; merited and unmerited. If you reject the Biblical definition of grace (“God’s favor”, see 2 Pet 1:2 AMP), then you must be advocating merited favor. If you are preaching human effort and reward/salvation based on merit, what need have you of Jesus? What need have you of grace? It is true that God’s grace empowers us to live holy lives, but our behavior does not make us holy any more than a fruit makes the tree on which it grows. We are sanctified by Christ (Heb 10:29). (2) Most of the new covenant was written in Greek, not Hebrew. The word repentance in Greek, metanoia, literally means a change of mind. Change the mind and a change in behavior will inevitably follow. But if you advocate behavior change without addressing the heart, you will simply drive sin underground leaving people fundamentally unchanged. (3) Christians do not have a sin nature; they have the nature of Christ within them (Col 2:11, 2 Cor 5:17). Saying “you must confess to be forgiven but this is not works” is a contradiction in any language. It is an anti-cross, anti-Christ doctrine that demands we earn what God has freely given us. Whether you think John was writing for saints or sinners, he most definitely was not calling them to review their sins to earn forgiveness. He was telling them to agree with God – this is what confess literally means in the Greek. Sinners need to agree that they are in need of a Savior; saints need to agree that they were forgiven 2000 years ago, just as the Bible declares (Col 2:13).

I thought you made a very good point ” if you advocate behaviour change without addressing the heart, you will simply drive sin underground…” Point number 3.Some Christians say we have still have two natures hence the battle with sin but with the new nature we can overcome. Some say as what the bible suggests we just have the new nature but than people add we still have the old sinful flesh hence the battle. Others say we have the new nature but through His grace we are being conformed to His image and so yes the new nature can sin but we will eventually be glorified. I would like to hear your understanding on this. Much appreciated.
Just a little background. I was a backslider, I believed in Jesus’ work at the cross, that He died for me and was raised from the dead but I had commited a sin that I could not repent of and receive forgiveness because I was NOT sorry and I knew I never would be. Because of this I felt so dirty and unworthy of Jesus’ sacrifice I turned away and lived a more sinful life than ever. Over ten years ago I had cancer, six months of chemo and 6 wks of radiation. Even though I knew I could die I couldn’t turn to the Father because I couldn’t receive forgiveness so He wouldn’t help me even though I had children to raise. So very sad. I still am not sorry for divorcing a physically violent man after 7 years of fear and terror for myself and my children and 5 years of Christian counseling but I truly sorry for all the sin I commited after that what a waste of time. I could have been serving my Lord and helping other women and children learn about our loving Father. What turned me around was the Gospel of Grace and an understanding of the GIFT of Righteousness.
Repent??? God repented??? What! This couldn’t be true!! But alas the Word says He did.
Exodus 32:14-15 – ” And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do to his people, And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tablets…”
How could this be, who would God ask forgiveness from, Moses?!!! NO ONE

I had forgotten that 30 yrs ago when He saved me and I told him I didn’t feel saved he said as clearly to me, almost as if he were in the room, ” Forgive yourself because I already have.” I received his grace and all that that includes. I cannot be perfect, the perfection is in Jesus’ and His righteousness. Praise Him always, Trust Him always, Believe Him always. This is life and life more abundantly.

Thank you for all your responses to everyone’s comments. I see that you truly have a lot of love flowing through your words.
Just a quick background that my wife and I are from New Creation Church, and we are from Singapore.
I grew up in pentecostal churches that taught me to confess my sins in order to be forgiven. They continually pointed out to me what I should not be doing and what I should be doing. I should be praying everyday, I should not watch movies because they are evil, I should bring friends to church. That was when I was just 7 years old. It was so difficult I kept a notebook recording all my sins. And the more I tried not to sin, the more I sinned. The more I tried to be “faithful to God”, the more weary I was. It was no surprise that after 2-3 years, I gave up being a church going Christian. I told God I was a hypocrite who only looked for Him when I needed help. And I could not fulfill all that was asked of me. I told God “I give up.” In my teenage years the same stories happened. I was “on fire” for God, being in a charismatic, pentecostal church. And I showed my zeal by serving in church and taking part in all the activities. It came to a halt when I was under a cell group leader who wanted me to report my quiet time everyday to him. Once again I told God “I give up.” I “backslided”, for the hundredth time in my life!
I came across the teachings of New Creation Church in 2006. And that was a period in time when I was in depression. I was in a vicious cycle of guilt and condemnation after a failed relationship. I was addicted to pornography. And the more I thought about how I sinned against God, the more I want to hide from Him, and the more I was stuck in bondage. Each time I confessed my sin and asked for forgiveness and felt “clean again”, it will just take one moment of weakness within a week! To make me fall and stumble. At the first instance I was very very wary towards Pastor Prince, with my defences raised up because 1) I felt he was a powerful communicator. and 2) He expounded on scriptures that I have never heard in my life! Concepts like substitution, the the truths of the New Covenant. I was skeptical and tried to poke holes in his theology. But throughout, I felt a sense of peace that I have never felt before so I kept going back to his messages.
It was about 1 year later that I told God “God I do not agree with everything Pastor Prince is saying, and some parts of it feels controversial, but I can’t deny what the truth in me testifies”. And with 3 miraculous events, God showed me to stay in New Creation and I just surrendered all my doubts to God.
3 years on, I am really full of joy to say that I have been delivered from my bondage of pornography and depression. It is not by the confession of sin, and to be “truly sorry for what I did”. But it is like what Paul, Charles Spurgeon, Watchman Nee, and Pastor Prince says. To recognise, by faith that Jesus is our Righteousness! He is our Holiness! We become transformed from glory to glory by beholding His face (2 Cor 3:18)! Even when I fall, He still loves me. Even when I sin, His grace abounds (Romans 5:20)! His grace superabounds! Slowly but surely, every area of my life is turned around. I used to be the chief of sinners in the area of relationships, saying destructive words to the girl I dated in the past. But today I am happily married to my wife, and everyone can see the love of Christ in our relationship.
Jesus pursues me with an everlasting love. I have rejected Him so many times. But yet His grace abounded towards me. I have stopped confessed my sins for the past 3 years. I have only confessed His righteousness, His holiness, His love, His finished work at the cross. And simply by beholding Him, I am being transformed from glory to glory. I have fallen out of love with sin, and fallen in love with Jesus. When Pastor Prince preached the message “Boast of Jesus’ love for you, not your love for Him.” I wrote “my name, the beloved of Jesus”. And I wept, feeling His true and perfect love.
Quiet time used to be a dread. Now I converse with Jesus every now and then throughout the day. Reading the Bible used to make me sleepy. But now seeing Jesus in EVERY story makes my heart burn. Bringing friends to church and testifying to people about Jesus used to be a challenge. But now, when my friends look at my life, they ask me to bring them to church, for we are living epistles of Christ (2 Cor 3:2)! Hallelujah!!! I am not boasting anything of myself, but by Christ in me, the hope of glory. Transforming the areas of my greatest weakness into my greatest strengths.
Sometimes it is not easy because there are many who reject the gospel of grace. That is why I am here to testify the truth. The ministry of Pastor Prince can be summarised in 3 phrases, and this is specific to my life.
1) The New Covenant Truth and the Finished Work of Jesus.
2) Jesus my everything. My righteousness, my holiness, my sanctification, my wisdom, my love, my grace, my forgiveness, my healing, my abundance, my all in all!
3) Christ in us, the hope of glory.
The verses all really come alive when these sink into our spirit man. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Hallelujah!!!

WOW! same things happens to me… been hearing JPs messages for quite some months now… There are some things that he says that just seem to be not what the bible really is saying… my racional mind wants to understand the bible from a human point of view… But like u said, even that my mind would say “no, this is illogical” i felt in my heart the ‘confirmation’ in my heart… been struggling to accept the good news of the gospel (of grace, which is the only one there is), because of some difficult verses… sometimes i feel like i must be in serious trouble with God, since i fell like this “grace preaching” is not biblical and that i fit the 2 Tm 4:3 : ( yet when i hear (or read) about the gospel of grace, especially when its JP preaching, something inside my feels alive… as if i was really created to live this so called “grace revolution”… thanks for your testimony… i am as u were fighting against pornography, so u know how i feel! Hi crista, praise God! Throughout the past few years it is difficult for me to explain to my friends who are caught in the cycle of religion – about the perfect work of Jesus, about the amazing grace of Jesus, about the complete forgiveness of sins, and about our new contractual obligations under the New Covenant.
It is painful to see that they reject this message, and continue being in the cycle of guilt, condemnation, and trying to balance the law with grace. My prayer is really that people (including myself) experience fully, the liberty, the perfect love, the true rest, the unmerited favor and grace that Jesus has purchased for us.

I attend New Creation too and I testify that it has done nothing but turn my life wonderfully around and like you, what I used to dread, felt so lacking and inadequate in I do with no effort today and this my dear brother is the grace of God through the finished work of Christ on the cross.

Thankyou you for this blog also , Your words help me not feel like too small a minority . I live in Toowoomba Queensland . Are there any Pastors in Queensland that have strong convictions similar to Joseph Prince .Im starving for decent like minded fellowship.
After 20 years of Law and Grace mixed together and being led back to the “Works of the Law” , deceptively taking me under the curse , the message or better said “Liberating Truth” and teaching gift God has given Joseph Prince has literaly made me feel “born again” Again . Not that we should be lead by our feelings , but it is good to feel the joy ,God has for us. Under the curse is not a place for sons of God to be .
This mixture , (preached by 95% of the “Pastors” I have ever came across) only can bring you under The Curse . The result of being entangled in the curse cost me my marriage , some of my family and nearly my life . Its over 10 years now since my marriage broke up and my family was ripped apart . Some days its like my heart has still been ripped in two .
I was given loan of some Josephs Cds and video, which I since have purchased , I had to play them nearly 20 x over the first 6 months . Because of the mixed doctrine of demons and half truths in me , I was fed this when I first got saved , it had deeply poisoned me and most christians I know . Most christians are really good , kind people , but the mixed message which takes you back to Works can only help produce “Works of the Flesh” .
It makes my heart grieve for my brothers and sisters in Christ . Entangled in a lie , confused , dishearteded , guilt ridden and condemned , trying to perform , trying to get right , live right , condeming themselves and others , quick to judge and point out fault. sometimes smelling the aroma of complete freedom only to be dragged back to consider their own performances
When ever you hear the focus mainly on people performance and not His finished work be “weary” it is a bewitching to lead you back to Works focus . I believe its the very difference between Cain and Able. Both had deep convictions , deep attitudes , both knew God . One was focused on the Tree of Knowledge and one was focused on the Tree of Life . Both knew who God was . It was their focus which produced the fruit in their Lives . One eventually became a murder of his own brother .
Sometimes I see a real hate for the freedom we have . Our enemies can definitley be in our own household . I am learning to rejoice in our tribulation . I think we need to start preaching this truth by ourselves. Not many “Pastors” teach radical Grace. I live in Orlando, FL. a Religious fundamentalist city, where most of the Churches are a mix bag of Grace and Law. The Grace of God is an adventure, every day!!

For you guys that live or visiting Jakarta, Indonesia, and wants to hear the gospel of grace being preached, you can do so at Tiberias Church (Gereja Tiberias Indonesia). That church and the pastors have a close relationship with Ps Prince as well as New Creation Church. Hope you answer this. Do you know of the book entitled “Heaven Is So Real” by Choo Thomas?
If you do, what do you think about it? What are your views on things like having visions, dreams (the verses in Joel). In the book, Choo Thomas tells she encounters Jesus and brings her to heaven to see what it’d be like–and in the boook Jesus tells that it’s incredibly hard to get to heaven.
No, sorry – haven’t read it. Visions and dreams? Sure, why not. It is incredibly hard to get to heaven – Jesus said so in Matt 19:25-26. That’s why I’m thankful for grace.
It would be nice if you search/google it. Some say it’s only a deception. I’ve read the book and there were a lot of heavy stuff contradicting to what you grace guys are saying. That’s why I’m still confused right now because the author said that Jesus was the one who wrote the book through her.
It came out about 2004, or 2005.
God is not the author of confusion and there’s only one book that I trust as truly inspired. Don’t compare two teachers to each other – compare them with the Word (meaning Jesus). He is the Truth. Anything that doesn’t walk like Him, talk like Him, sound like Him is likely to be something else.
Hi I saw this post and went to the site. I haven’t read the book or watched the video but the things I read were disturbing to me. I’d much rather stick with Andrew Wommack but am I deceiving myself? Did you ever hear of or read “A course in Miracles, also supposedly written? by Jesus? I think it would also be nice to hear Pauls thoughts on this (Heaven Is So Real”) but I think he would probably say to throw the book away. After going to the website, I feel doomed. How are we to be that perfect? Maybe I didn’t read enough of it ? I might go back and watch the video or read the book but maybe I’ll chicken out.

I read the book cover to cover and was deeply confused by it and fear-stricken. I already read the book (Heaven is so Real) ever since I was in fourth grade and reread it last year but found out recently about it being a DECEPTION–and I now know full well that it is!
I read it with an open mind & by the time I finished it, was so disturbed & repulsed, I threw it away. There was too much there that did not hold true to the way God has revealed Himself to His children, plus, much of her own behavior does not sound like Holy Spirit leading as she claimed…. as it was very rude & disrespectful at times.
I just happened upon your article about Joseph Prince whom I have been listening to for several years while Googling to find a church in my area that teaches pure Grace. I had to laugh because I find myself doing the same thing you said that you do … listening to teachers and preachers to see how long it takes before they are mixing law and grace. I’m honestly hoping to find some who don’t, and PRAYING for the entire Body of Christ to get it. I’ve been a student of the Word of God for so many years, but since I read the book, “Destined to Reign” by Joseph Prince, so many things are making sense now! I don’t feel confused when I hear ministers mixing law and grace, I always take the side of GRACE! I am growing in the knowledge of Jesus and it has set me free! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ARTICLE! Your statement is not correct.
Joseph Prince proved biblically that Ananias and his wife were not Christian, i.e. in Christ and part of the body of Christ, because of the words used in reference to him: to wit: “a man named Ananias”. This contrasted with Ananias (of Saul/Paul fame) who was Christian and not referenced as “a man”.

But the best anti-grace quotes comes from Hebrews 10:26-31. So if we sin after receiving knowledge then we will get punished…. could it get any clearer!!!! …. oh yes it can. Hebrews 6:4-6.

Alstor, are you an unbeliever? Anti-grace is anti-gospel so maybe you are in the wrong place? The only sin in all of Hebrews is unbelief (read it, all). So if you receive the knowledge of Grace and still refuse to believe it then you will get punished. Even in this life because I do not see how you can be happy when you think you have to follow 613 laws perfectly or you will burn in hell. Maybe read the sermon on the mount and that will show you you cant do it. “Be perfect.” If you arent doing that you will not spend eternity with God. So either try on your own or accept Grace. I pick Jesus because taking his perfection is much easier than 613 rules. You seem to be using verses that are against yourself? You have heard of Gods goodness, heard of complete forgiveness at the cross, yet you trample the son of God and turn back to law. Try reading all of Hebrews together because it is the best book in the bible to support grace.

i love this verses, heb6 must be Grace Glorifying. from v1-3, non of the above resulted by the Law for start but by Grace. halleluyah! v4-5 also Grace brought about this goodies. “falling away” from Grace when we try to remain under the law which paul stated in gal 5:4. so context is king.

All i can say is thank you for your stand on grace. My life will never be the same because of this man Jesus which truly is grace.
I accepted Jesus and became a Christian over 25 years ago, and embarked upon the most miserable times of my life. I was taught law and was brought under the merit system by many well-meaning churches. I bounced from church-to-church, struggled with disappointments of not being good enough, and life was not worth living to me. When I fell into sin, it was because I felt lost even though I was saved. Everywhere I turned, I was told that I lacked faith, needed to study the Bible more, wasn’t tithing or giving enough, needed to join a small group, or I had unconfessed sin in my life. I literally would write down my sins everyday in a notebook and confess every single one of them. It would take well over an hour to do this ritual each day, and I was only good until I sinned again. To maintain all the rules and behaviors I was taught left no time for God.
During those long and very unproductive years, I kept saying in my heart, “God, You said if we seek You we will find You if we search for You with all our hearts. God I’m desperate for You, but this is like serving a hard Task Master. Needless to say, it was a loveless relationship on my part. Then God broke in with His message of Grace proclaimed by Pastor Prince! I finally heard the pure Gospel of Grace preached in all its glory and was able to embrace my salvation and have a true relationship with Jesus and see God as “Abba Father”.
Joseph Prince was raised up in these last days to proclaim Truth to us and I am forever in his debt because of his obedience to God. Hallelujah! I can see! I can see! And to everyone who says this grace message will only give people a license to sin… Not true. I love God more because of it. I want to serve Him with my whole heart because now I understand what He has done for me through Jesus Christ. I love God because He first loved me. He is the initiator and I am the receiver. My life is hid with Christ in God. I’m saved and I’m good. Amen!

Amen and amen. I spent over 40 years of my life trying to feel “good” enough to have a chance at going to heaven. How liberating to finally be awakened to The Truth!!! Jesus paid it all! Peace on earth goodwill to men. Why did I not get hold of it sooner? Thank You Lord for the teachers who have put Your Truth out there and made a way for true seekers to really have a relationship with You! Thank You for this website and thank You for teachers like Pastor Prince who point us back to Jesus and what He accomplished on the cross!
I don’t know about you but I get a little irritated at times seeing bickering among the church and doctrine etc. If we would live and let God we would all see it through the eyes of Jesus. Let God be true and every man a liar. We should all be speaking the same thing. The current state of the church is mind boggling. Not to get it twisted but God is good all the time. His people are making advancements. At times I just convert to “you know what if you think what your saying is right then we’ll all find out soon won’t we.” LOL! I know that’s not the love of God. I should be patient and willing. Others on these posts have definitely displayed that nature. It just makes me mad to see people living below the standards. God has done so much for us. Its amazing to even think about it. When I was a kid I used to always want to be a super hero. With Jesus and his power and authority granted unto us I can finally live out that dream. To God be the glory!! Thank God for Pastors like Joseph Prince and Andrew Wommack! These guys are awesome!! I know there are many more like them who are advancing the kingdom! Let his light shine bright!!

I am 16years old I am proud to say I am celebrating 1year of walking in Grace. I wake up everyday smiling & calling God “Daddy”. The only time I adress him as “God” is when im talking to someone. But now I call him my Abba DADDY! Since listening to Joseph Prince I have seen every last one of my dreams come TRUE! Jesus has set me free. I swallow everything the Man Of God says…i even look in my Bible to see for myself and its TRUE! its not about my performance its aboit JESUS performance! HALLELUJAH!!!!!!

Hey Paul this is Paul. I became enriched by Joseph Prince’s ministry three years ago when I heard him preach on “Taking of the Lord’s supper unworthely. I was so set free for this was the first time I had ever heard this truth and I grew up in the Church. Another teacher I have run across is Tullian T. …can’t spell his last name… but is pastor at Corol Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale Fl. Exept for Pentecostal differences they are both word for word on Grace. God Bless

I listen to Pastor Prince as well and my spirit has been growing and feasting more and more on Jesus.
He came for me, as a permanent one-time solution, to redeem me in every way.
In the OT, the blood of bulls and goats hide/cover their sins and trespasses for a year, until the next.
In the NT, Jesus is my perfect sacrificial lamb, and he took away all my sins.
Jesus, you are my blessed redeemer, saviour, lamb of God, you are my all in all.

I have only seen two or three sermons of Pastor Prince. I totally loved it. I am very sceptical of some sermons and things that some Pastors say, but Pastor Prince refers back to the Bible constantly – which is what I like so much. I felt very comfortable watching the sermons of Pastor Prince. In fact, I cried and felt blessed. Thank you so much for your quotes. I hope one day I will find his book and read it myself. Recently, this year, I “found” Joseph Prince Ministries on TV. Since the first message was such a blessing, I have tuned in as often as possible — and I have always been blessed (often to tears, as I find myself praising God for His great kindness and love towards me). I experience the blessed joy of the Lord filling me up as I listen to the messages. Thank God !!! I am being liberated from “religious junk” — condemnation being the worst. Always seemed I should be doing better spiritually than I was — found myself spending too much time on self-condemning thoughts, instead of staying my mind on Jesus — what a mental torture. Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Only Begotten Son, the LORD JESUS CHRIST — and, thank You for the ministry of Pastor Joseph Prince, who is teaching Your Church wonderful, liberating truths from Your written Word, the Holy Bible. Where sin abounds, grace does more abound. We have been eternally and completely forgiven – Jesus was preaching law to those under the law.
Adding to what Paul just wrote, Rom 6:11 states sin shall not have dominion over you because you are not under the law but under grace.
So to think that under grace you have license to sin is the devil just putting false beliefs one’s mind. I have personally experienced grace and grace has taught me to loose my sinning desires. I even had some bad habits that just left on their own simply because I realized I am the righteousness of GOD in Christ not based on my efforts or lack thereof but based on HIS finished work on the cross.
You ever wonder why addicts always relapse? Human effort!! But believing and confessing your righteousness in GOD even in the middle of your sin, will remove the power of the sin’s grip over you and before you know it you will be free from it totally.
After years of struggling with the law and finally finding the grace message, I told myself if the grace message is fake, I would rather go with it and live life with peace of mind than go with the law and live life with guilt and condemnation. Thank JESUS that in my struggling HE came forcefully to confirm the grace message.

Realised that a lot of the objections you got were from the books in the Bible addressed to the Jews, i.e. the Book of Matthew, and the Books after Paul’s epistles. These books were written primarily for the Jews, who were under the 10 Commandments, where there comes the requirements Jesus said in His time here to make the Jews come to the end of their works, so they can see the need for a Saviour.
Thought this is a simple guideline that we all can follow when it comes to engaging in the Bible: in the New Testament, read the Pauline Espistles first (Romans – Philemon) to be grounded and rooted in the Complete Work of Jesus. Then slowly move to Acts, then to Hebrews – Jude where the Gospel turns to the Jews. Then reading the 4 Gospels will make sense as Jesus came to fulfil the Law, first to the Jews (Matthew), then to the Gentiles (Mark, Luke, John).
Ps Prince does say this: 1) Read the passage in its context, 2) Rem whom does the particular Book address, 3) It should point to the Work of Jesus, 4) Let Bible interpret Bible, and 5) Do not let obscure passages rob you of the blessings of ‘Sure’ passages.

I think this is such an awesome discussion about biblical teachings amongst the various pastors. As a Christian, i’ve been to several churches before hearing the gospel of grace. My previous churches preached a mixture of law and grace. Paul clearly states that the ministry of the law (2 cor 3) is the ministry of condemnation is a ministry of death. By mixing old wine skin with new wine skin, both are lost. It is also evident through experience (never the best gauge of biblical facts but nonetheless..) that MANY who are under such teachings of mixture are under bondage. On one hand, we feel sometimes Jesus loves us, on the other hand, we fear that we might see the wrath of God upon us. If something bad happens to us, instead of coming against it, we might succumb and believe it’s God’s punishment upon us. Honestly, looking back, that was the worst spiritual time in my life. Getting closer to God was getting me further away because I started to understand how the smallest things like fear and worry are sins. IF confession is needed, we will be confessing every second. IF our sins are only cleansed when we receive Christ and thereafter we have to keep the law for our own salvation, then it’s not fully dependent on Christ but on ourselves as well. Jesus’ sacrifice will also be akin to the old covenant sacrifices of bulls and goats. Having that insecurity in my eternal salvation led me to sin more. And backing it up with the bible, ‘the strength of sin is the law’. Many who are under such teachings feel that keeping the law for our salvation is so difficult that we give up.
Knowing the true gospel now, I sincerely hope that more preachers will understand the bible better. Get into the hebrew/greek. Understand God’s system of an innocent party being able to take the punishment on the guilty’s behalf. Because the pulpit is where God’s word reaches the world. The world needs to hear about God’s grace and love. JUDGEMENT has already been met at the cross for believers. God can’t punish us again for what Jesus has already paid on our behalf. The death that we deserve, was paid by Jesus. And hence, God will remember our sins no more. I urge pastors, don’t put your congregation under the bondage of the law. because it has NO POWER to save, for none can keep the law..but in and of itself, it causes condemnation.
Now understanding the true gospel (grace), i have faith i haven’t had before, serve in church because i love Christ not because i’m trying to earn anything, see little need in indulging in the carnal pleasures of life, have the iron clad security that I’m going to heaven when I die, know that i have been given dominion over all manner of things of this Earth, know that God is always for me and never against me, and most of all, i know without a shadow of a doubt, that Jesus loves me and I truly believe it.
