Wommackisms – Top 20 Andrew Wommack Quotes

If you’ve ever heard Andrew Wommack speak, you will know that he is one unique hombre. I’m not just referring to his theology – there’s a growing number of people preaching pure grace these days. I’m referring to the way he speaks.

I say this with the utmost respect, but Wommack has mastered the art of sounding like a country hick. And before you write in to complain, let me say that’s his word not mine:

“God chose the foolish things of the world to confound the wise… because people who are foolish… trust in God the most… God often uses country hicks to preach the Gospel for that very reason. I guarantee you, when you’re a hick from Texas like me, then you know it’s got to be God on your behalf or you haven’t got a chance. And there’s freedom in that!” (The True Nature of God, pp.98-9)

This time a year ago I had never heard Wommack preach. I’ve now heard him speak several times and I’ve read many of his books. He’s become one of my favorite Bible teachers.

Although I was startled by his manner at first, I’ve come to appreciate his colloquialisms and his down-home wisdom. If you’ve grown up on a diet of religious mumbo-jumbo, you may find his plainspokenness quite refreshing.

To give you a taste, here are 20 of my favorite Wommackisms:

1.    “If you’d just center your thoughts and affections upon the Lord, you’d be better of accidentally than you’ve ever been on purpose!” (A Better Way to Pray, p.84)

2.    “Many Christians believe that the only difference between the Old Testament and the New is one blank page in the Bible.” (A Better Way to Pray, p.46)

3.    “God’s anointing is not based on your performance, but if you don’t open the Word, you’re stupid, because that’s where the words of life are.” (The True Nature of God, p.99)

4.    “When I minister healing to someone, I’ll pray for them two, three, four, or more times. I don’t care! I’m willing to pray for them until I rub all the hair off of their head!” (A Better Way to Pray, p.125)

5.    “Many believers haven’t seen the devil or a demon in years. He doesn’t have to come around. You’re doing a perfect job ruining your own life. He taught you how to think and act, and you’ve run with it from there – with good intentions. You’re trying to live for God, but it’s you doing it in human strength rather than God living through you.” (Grace – The Power of the Gospel, p.127)

6.    “Contrary to popular belief, faith does not move God. He’s not the one who’s stuck!” (A Better Way to Pray, p.44)

7.    “Some people are waiting until the Holy Spirit just makes them throw their hands up in the air because they’ve never done it before. ‘Well, I just don’t feel led.’ You old carnal thing!” (Grace – The Power of the Gospel, p.138)

8.    “What a sorry attitude! If I were God, the spirit of slap would come all over me!” (A Better Way to Pray, p.63)

9.    “It’s a wonder you’re not a pile of ashes! The only reason God’s not ticked off at you is because Jesus did such an effective job.” (A Better Way to Pray, p.59)

10.    “You have this new spirit on the inside of you and the only thing holding you back is your ‘stinkin’ thinkin’.” (Grace – The Power of the Gospel, p.161)

11.    “God is El Shaddai, not El Cheapo. The Lord will take care of us better than we take care of ourselves.” (Article: Financial Stewardship)

12.    “When it comes to being born again, your soul wasn’t the part of you that completely changed! If you were stupid before you were saved, you’re still stupid after being saved.” (Spirit, Soul, and Body, p.6)

13.    “When my wife and I first started out in ministry, we were so poor we couldn’t even pay attention!” (You’ve Already Got It, p.16)

14.    “One of the things I’ve learned is that many Christians never let the Bible get in the way of what they believe.” (Article: Hebrews Highlights)

15.    “In Genesis, why didn’t the devil choose a tiger?… Why didn’t he have a wooly mammoth just stick its foot on top of her head and demand, ‘Eat the fruit or I’ll crush your skull?’” (You’ve Already Got It, p.115)

16.    “The devil isn’t a true lion; he just walks around roaring like one trying to intimidate the Body of Christ. But the truth is, he’s had his teeth pulled, and all he can do now is gum you.” (You’ve Already Got It, p.120)

17.    “If you never bump into the devil, it’s because you’re going in the same direction.” (Article: How to Be Happy)

18.    “It’s wrong, wrong, wrong!” (You’ve Already Got It, p.150, when discussing spiritual mapping and missions trips where people have been instructed not to preach the gospel)

19.    “Most Christians say, ‘Well, I’m only human, you know. I’m just a man.’ That’s stinkin’ thinkin’! I was only human, but then I became born again. There’s part of me now that’s wall-to-wall Holy Ghost.” (You’ve Already Got It, p.167)

20.    “That’ll put a shout in a fence post!” (You’ve Already Got It, p.28)

I know there are a lot of Wommack fans out there. In the comments below tell me your favorite Wommackism.

  4. You cant praise God with your thumb in your mouth

  5. One third of me is wall to wall holy ghost

  6. I was just starting to look into you and your teachings on grace because there are so few of us that preach and teach the fullness of the gospel, but now that I find that you endorse a false teach as Andrew Wommack…well I have to walk away with a sad heart, because if you don’t see this, then you must teach the same error that he does. The Word of Faith teachings of Hagin and Copeland are false and Wommack adheres to their errors also, this I have know for the last 20+ years, you should too.

so what makes you an expert?

      • Dear John Andra,
My advice is to pray the prayer below every day for the next three months from your heart and see what God will show you

“For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”
        ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:15-23‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬

Okay, thanks. That is a good passage. I will continue to follow Andrew’s teachings as they have helped me greatly. You know, my sister told me, “We all have to find our way”. I am a Catholic and a born again Christian. I left the Catholic Church in 2013 and came back February 11, 2015.

      • I was Catholic too. I became born again and stayed in an evengelical church for about 6 years. I was baptised in the Spirit and had to move to a different church. Keep your eyes on Jesus, He will lead you. Keep praying the Ephesians prayer. Make sure to personalise it and see what the Holy Spirit will show you.

      • John Andra // June 20, 2016 at 6:37 am //

Thanks, I am not very disciplined. But I can see that reading the Ephesians prayer would probably be helpful. I think I will give it a try.

  17. I sincerely hope Pastor Wommack is for real! I enjoy him, & can honestly learn from his teaching. I’m sorry, but I despise, Copeland, Meyer, Hinn, Murdoch, …Oh, I can’t name them all. The majority of TV ministers are like carnival barkers. They truly make me sick to my stomach. You people that support these con-people, please wake up!…Oh what I’d give
to see GOD turn all these mega-plexes to little white churches. These hucksters don’t believe, or they wouldn’t beg. It makes me so sick..Ask GOD if what the carnies are doing is in the Bible…I close with “Think about it”…….Please

    • Please help us know what you have been doing for the kingdom of God. Have been made a judge.
Love is the language of the Kingdom of light.

  18. I’ve been laughing since I ‘discovered’ this blog. I loooooove AW and I constantly bless God for his ministry. A lot of my close friends and family including ministers and pastors think he’s a fraud. But I have never heard a more balanced teacher nor has any minister influenced me and made me a better Christian than he has. I could go on and on
My favorite line,” if you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time” or something like that.
Looking forward to meeting him sometime, if not here on earth then when we all get to heaven

    • My favourite Andrew Wommack line is : ”This isnt your ‘NOD TO GOD CROWD’, many of you are stark raving fanatics or you were drug here by one. Otherwise your wouldnt be sitting here listening to a hick from texas.”

  19. Just came to this website a few days ago through a Google search for covenant exchange. Thanks a lot Paul. I was brought up in religion but am being set free. God is doing awesome things in this generation. I
I have just finished watching AW on the balance of Grace and Faith. He has changed my life.
I like most ” Christians think that the difference between the old and New Testament is one blank page.
Keep up the good work Paul.

Yes, that one is awesome. I also like Andrew’s “Living in the Balance of Grace and Faith”. I don’t think anyone else explains it quite the same as Andrew.

Another one of Andrew–“Most people don’t let the Word of God get in the way of what they believe”.

  30. Andrew Wommack is a true believer…in the right person..Jesus Christ. He doesn’t care about
anyone criticism and he is absolutely correct. His only job here on earth is teaching the Gospel truth. He is awesome… He doesn’t care who loves him….he knows that he is loved by God. Open up your ears people and listen carefully. He is a great teacher. God bless you Mr. Wommack.

Andrew loves to teach the gospel, thus the name of his TV program, The Gospel Truth. There are more flamboyant speakers, but there are not too many of them that I think really teach the word. And that is what Andrew does.

There have been times that I have decided to start into a teaching of Andrew’s and on the very first lesson he will talk about something that relates directly to my life. There is no one really like him.

I know this is a new wrinkle in someones brain……. I discovered Andrew 6 months and since then I have listened to him almost every day. He has really helped me grow and has made me just fall with the word. I plan to enroll to CBC either through online or by correspondence

  36. He is my mentor, a nice teacher and a spirit filled preacher. I love it when he says “you pull your tongue out of your mouth and grow up!”

  37. This got me “Cherubims are not little babies with wings”- from Highlights from Hebrews

  38. Andrew speaking of a courageous woman he knows… “She’s stronger than a field of garlic!”

All of them. The first book I read was.”God wants you well” in then went to a conference 3 weeks later. I’m stuck on him and he makes sense to me. Learning a whole new way of doing great and praying. I love it and blessed a.friend gave me his book to read.

  40. I first thought this was a satire page until reading the comments. Yes, the Gospel is about Grace. It’s by grace that we have been saved (through faith) from our sins. In God’s sight, we are made righteous by the blood and righteousness of Christ that he bestows upon us – not of our own works. AW gets the grace part right. However, the call for repentance and the focus on the Christ Crucified and His work on the Cross is minimal. Case in point, search this page and the comments for “Christ” and “Cross”. How many time do they appear?

  41. “And people would stay away from my meetings by the thousands!” Andrew on his early days of ministry

  42. Lol I just recently started listening to him and was very blessed by his teachings, and I noticed all those things he said and had good laughs too. A part of me was kind of shocked too as how blunt he was! but I think it’s actually cool, we shouldn’t have beating around the bush teachings in the body of Christ. God bless x

am 26yrs from Uganda (africa) I love Andrew, GOD has used him to change my life, i mean i listen to him so much that i now have a Texas accent. Have listened to him for about 7 yrs since about 2010, I was recently at my lowest (2013-2016) , strugling with a bad job, fornication, pornography, anger, bitterness, pride and when i got back to listening to him, i have been set free and i now have power over the flesh and i walk in the spirit. My favorite is, as long as you can live without more of GOD you will or anything else. GOD BLESS ANDY

Andrew’s down to earth frankness rubs the “high brows” sore!
The gospel of Jesus Christ is most powerful when preached in simplicity and directness without extra garnish and that’s exactly what Andrew does and I pray that God preserve him blameless in the blessed kingdom work.

  45. I am confused. I was excited to listen to Andrew Wommack because everyone is saying he is a grace preacher. The first 5 seconds I listened to of him he said don’t commit adultery because God is watching you. I obviously agree we shouldn’t commit adultery, but it sounded like a threat saying God will punish you if you do. So far he has only been hanging out in the laws of the old testament. He also said we must give an account at the end of what we have done. I thought only unbelievers are judged for actions. Has anyone heard Andrew Farley. I really enjoy him and Andrew Wommack seems kind of opposite of him.

  46. “Pull your thumb outta your mouth”
    Hahaha!!!

  47. I am so surprised that no one posted my favorite, “That’s so exciting it’ll put a shout in a fence post!”

Hello Paul.. I don’t write this lightly but I got into a discussion about healing and Paul’s thorns and I mentioned Mr. Wommack and wow did I get lit into by someone that “ it’s heretical teaching… he’s a heretic etc…
I trust in the Lord in all this.. could you please help me out on this and tell me what could even be thought of as “ heretical”. ?? Your brother in Christ Robert Slominski

    • Every grace preacher gets called heretic from time-to-time. I get it on an almost daily basis. It goes with the territory.

And it’s understandable. Radical grace seems like heresy to the mind raised on manmade religion. Only the Holy Spirit can illuminate this message.
