Who Do You Think You Are?

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I’m sure you’ve read this verse many times, but have you ever thought about what it means to be new?

You are not merely improved, modified, tweaked, re-conditioned, re-upholstered, or re-branded. You are wholly new.

You are a brand new creature, something that you never were before. Now that you’re new, do you know who you are?

Below are 50 things you need to know about your new God-given identity. Read these words aloud, with conviction, and I guarantee you it will leave you feeling encouraged, ready dance… and new!

I Am

I am a saint, a trophy of Christ’s victory

I am born again of imperishable seed
I am a new creation, complete in Christ and perfect forever

I am a child of God, the apple of my Father’s eye
I am one with the Lord and the temple of the Holy Spirit

I am eternally redeemed and completely forgiven
I am seated with Christ in heavenly realms
I am summoned by name and I am his

I am dead to sin and alive to God
I am free from guilt and condemnation
I am righteous, holy and blameless!
I am healed and I am strong in the Lord

I am hidden in Christ and eternally secure
I am loved with an everlasting love and I am highly favored

I am my Beloved’s and he is mine

Selah

I am the head and not the tail
I am blessed with every spiritual blessing and I am a joint heir with Christ

I am a competent minister of the new covenant
I am bona fide and qualified, chosen and anointed
I am his royal ambassador, a missionary to the world

I am a stranger on earth, a citizen of a city whose maker is God
I am not looking back but I am pressing on to know him more

I am trusting that he will finish in me that which he started

I am a king and a priest; a carrier of the Lord’s authority
I am a healer of the sick and a demon’s worst nightmare
I am king o’ the world because his victory is mine!

I am as bold as a lion and more than a conqueror
I am a towering testimony of the Spirit’s power

I am the salt of the earth and the light of the world
I am the sweet smell of Jesus to those who are perishing

I am a tree planted by the water, and I am a fruitful branch
I am the disciple whom Jesus loves

And by the grace of God I am what I am

  8. Hi Paul, this is awesome. I’ve been wrestling with the passage about salt when Jesus says what good is salt if it looses it’s flavor? Can you make it salty again? Is He saying don’t forget who you are in me otherwise you won’t be effective? Or is he saying salt by very definition is salty so it’s impossible to be cast out? Thanks!

  9. So I know God is with me because he is for me! what good news! however I’m not obsessed with avoiding sin, but the pain and consequences of sin. what’s the solution. reveal your true identity in christ. I know this is right and that the fruit of grace is sinlessness as opposed to the fruit of condemnation. who’s controlling? it seems to be a legalistic spirit. as good as this is, there is so much condemnation and sin itself is condemning. yuk. this sounds unattractive.

    thank you jesus!

  10. Now who can argue with that!!!!!

Great list! I would add Brother of Jesus and Storm-calmer. Both of those often get left out. Keep up the great work!

  15. The good news I am all of the above, thanks to Jesus, even if I do not know it yet! Grace has taught me ss a new creation “in Christ,” my identity is completely transformed. Totally. I am no longer defined by our past. Full stop! Or my efforts at self improvement! Nor my string of academic performances! No it is what Jesus did for me, my union and Oneness with God! I agree with what the Bible says about me; have a new nature, a new heart, and a new spirit. The Word says I am no longer a slave to sin, but we have been set free to live in righteousness and holiness. So am jumping on board! My old self has been crucified with Christ, yes the Bible teaches me this! So what does this mean and how does it play our in my life? As a new man, I live in the reality of my new identity. Trusting Jesus, in the good, and not so good. I embrace my new nature with both hands, and when possible share my good news wih others know Holy Spirit also guides and leads as this mind renewal is taking place. the result; I am not just a reconditioned self, a miracle has occurred and I am completely brand new, fully accepted and loved as a child of God, empowered to live from my new life. Wow, the Cross really worked!

  16. This post and THAT clip is amazing – The Lords revelation of Him to us and of us in Him gets to you exactly like the bloke in the clip – one minute feeling dried up ,lifeless, old “needing crutches” broken and crumpled no matter what age as that’s how the world and the devil gets you then BAM Holy Spirit conviction/revelation -I’m a new creation in Christ- forgiven, healed, loved, free Halleluyah thank You Jesus curse you damn lying crutches away with you !! And that’s just when you’re a new creation in Christ- because it’s so easy to forget and get bowed down again !! thanks for the wonderful reminder that I can cast away my “crutches “straighten my back and do a crazy jig coz I have a wonderful very much alive Saviour and I am alive in Him !!!

  17. Excellent Saint Paul. . . . Thank you.
