Introducing The Grace Commentary
Hi friends,
For years readers having been telling me, “Paul, why don’t you write a commentary?”
You’re wish is granted. Check out my brand new online grace-based Bible commentary at:
This is a new project and there is a ton of work to do. But hopefully there is enough material to give you a taste of what is to come. If you’d like a glimpse of the finished product, check out the entries for 1 John.
I’ve been working quietly on this project for some time. It’s time to find out what you think. Is The Grace Commentary a tool you might use? Is it easy to navigate? That sort of thing.
My hope is that you will find it helpful as you grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus.

This is honestly the best news I could have hoped to have! The sort of the thing I always knew I wanted but never imagined would actually come to be!
Just started doing a Bible in one year literally other day and kept thinking about wanting a commentary or others that I’ve used, and feeling they just fall short the of the grace perspective that’s needed. So timely – thank you Paul & all those who’ve inspired and supported this. Time to check it out!

I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful and excited I am about this! Thank you so much, I will be praying for this important work. I am currently building a class on Christianity and Marxism/Globalism/End Times, and had my nose buried in “Letters from Jesus” most of the day. There is NOTHING more important than knowing the great love God has for us, woven throughout the bible.

Hi Mark, I’m glad you are enjoying the new commentary. As you can imagine, a project of this size will take some time to complete. However, I already have notes on several thousand scriptures. It’s just a question of formatting and uploading them to the commentary. I don’t want to make any promises or put myself under any deadline pressure, but I can tell you this project will be my number one priority for a while. I will periodically post updates here and on Facebook.
This commentary is strong and I love it!!!! Verse by verse, you interpret thru lens of Grace that we might see each verse pointing to a different angle of Jesus’s finished work at the cross. Thank you Paul!!!
Thanks, I’ve just been looking through your commentary on 1 John 3, which I’ve always had problems with – if Christians never sin (I John 3), and there is no-one who does not sin (1 John 1), surely that means that no-one is a Christian? I’m glad you don’t believe that – actually, I’ve never met anyone except me who does.
I’m looking forward to seeing your commentaries on the gospels – especially Matthew 7.11 where Jesus says that we are all evil (which is such a strong word that I cannot see it as less than absolute condemnation), and Luke 6.24-26, where Jesus curses anyone who is rich, has enough to eat, is happy, or has had nice things said about them. These are my go-to verses for convincing myself that Jesus hates me and is pleased only when I am miserable. I realise it might be years before you have time to write commentaries on the gospels, but do you have any posts that you can recommend about these passages?

Really it is a commentary of grace indeed nothing but grace of God whenever I go through any verse of it, it comments nothing but grace, the grace of God is upon this man Paul Ellis.
Is there anything in the works to release a full commentary grace study Bible? I have LOVED using this online one as a reference point.
If not, what would you suggest as a good grace study Bible? I love the Bible I have now (gifted from my pastor), but I notice it has a lot of works oriented things in there, and not necessarily lining up theology wise with healing, gifts, eternal salvation, etc.
You may want to check out the Grace Bible project. It’s a new covenant-based study Bible (in progress) that is entirely free from mixture.
